THE TIM BARNARD INTERVIEW

Head down to the Ayden Gallery tonight, some time between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM, and buy this guy’s shit. One of the most prominent artists featured, among a slew of other equally talented individuals, Tim Barnard’s work will be hard to miss. As he puts it, his “focus on the infinite extremities inherent in the possibilities of high contrast black and white automatic drawing,” has given him a very distinct and original style. Equipped with nothing but a black marker a lot of the time and filling up entire eight foot canvases, the dude definitely has some skills.

DAFT PRIZZY

Are back in the studio.

BONUS:
Some guy took it upon himself to make a Daft Punk Tour DVD of their ‘Alive’ show in 2007. The footage is made up entirely of what he and other fans managed to capture with digital cameras (and other recording devices I’m guessing as the quality is pretty good). You can buy it from the site June 14th. Previews of the footage can be seen here. I’m thinking about having a screening at my place with fake grass and shit.

BONUS BONUS:
Kanye bringing out Daft Punk at the Grammy’s. Yeah this is old but I didn’t see it until recently… I wonder how many people there thought they were just two of his DJs in a pyramid.

M.I.A. COMING BACK WITH THE POWER POWER

I just got back from her show and I’m still a little faded – not enough to do this in all caps though, shouts to Prodigy. He is running this blog shit. I guess all I want to say is I had just about given up on homegirl until tonight. I’ve read a lot of bad press about how M.I.A. is a one trick pony who can’t sing (think I’m co-signing after tonight), can’t rap, and doesn’t actually push any “conscious” agenda whatsoever, she just appears to. I’ve heard people say Santogold is M.I.A. except better. Regardless of any of it, or how much she may rely on (heavvvy) beats and studio mixing, she threw it down tonight and put on an ill show. I’m talking JUNGLE IN THE KLUBBB RAW. I think most people at this point know of her, and know if they like her, but here’s what she opened with:

“DIGITAL GRAFFITI” BY VIRUS & RHEK: DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER – MAR. 7, 2008

“Laser tagging, projection throw-ups, photoshopped murals; the next generation of open-source light-based writing, recoding the city bulb by bulb.

The NeoGraf project will transform the city with nondestructive laser graffiti technologies. Through the use of image and light projection, graffiti artists will ‘paint’and tag buildings in realtime without violating the property. In order to present the diversity and evolution of graffiti, the project will work with different writers and artists from around Vancouver, and invite the collaboration of NomIg and Graffiti Research Lab to propagate this open-source technology.

Check back on the day of the event for location and times.”

Big Tune: National Beat Competition

Seeing as a homie of ours (by association) from Seattle is one of the finalists for this, and not many people even know beat battles exist, I figured i’d shed a little light…

Click on the flyer below to view the rest of its content:

“Big Tune is a program that was created to showcase the musical talents of emerging as well as established producers…the producers battle head to head through rounds of single elimination competition.

The last producer standing will be the producer with the…”Big Tune”…and crowned champion of the evening.” - www.redbullbigtime.com

This is a huge event and De La Soul is going to be performing, so if you’re in Seattle tomorrow, go check it out.

Oh, and make some noise when the aforementioned DJ Sabzi (of the seattle-based hip hop group, Blue Scholars) hits the stage. He’s reppin’ Seattle for y’all, so show some love. http://www.rawkus.com/bluescholars
