AMERICAN SOLDIER “EXPOSES US POLICY IRAQ”
There will soon be more to see around here as we’re adding a new dimension to the site: a non-music-related branch of the LAF. The following video is the type of post you’ll see on there—actually, this post is more like one extreme end of the spectrum. The new blog will probably include only 10% make-you-think content. The rest of it will be composed of 50% eye-candy… and 40%.. make-you-laugh content. In other words, it’ll be ill, so keep it locked or come back in a month or whatever..
Now back to the much more important topic of this video…
At the very least, this is worth watching in its entirety. I personally am so glad to see this guy speaking out. It’s refreshing to hear—no matter how biased or exaggerated of an opinion you or I may think he is expressing.

SEAN BELL: THE SHOOT BACK MIXTAPE
Following the recent acquittal of all the officers involved in the Sean Bell tragedy, our friends over at Troubl Media have stepped up and put a lot of time and energy into releasing a mixtape made up of interviews they’ve captured from different Sean Bell rallies. It features powerful words and clean beat selection, and I’d expect no less from the Trouble Media camp. Please check it out below:
“Three police officers killed one man, Sean Bell, and wounded two others, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield. From the night of this social atrocity to the not guilty verdict, emotions have been fierce. Sadness. Anger. Frustration. Disgust. Fear.
Download The Shoot Back Mixtape, or if you would rather stream the audio, check out The Shoot Back Mixtape.
While the politicians give speeches that do little but promote “middle of the road statements,” or, political rhetoric, straddling the political fence as to whether or not the verdict was right or wrong. It was wrong. The people have spoken.
Download the voices and speeches of the public discontent following the verdict. In the words of a protester speaking for Sean Bell: “It’s not about what you do today, but what you do tomorrow.”
TROUBL Media does not promote violence. We promote knowledge. The cover artwork embodies the sentiment of the community as does the sound byte at the end of “No Justice, No Peace,” which is included because it is reflective of the frustration many people have expressed with the police department’s conduct, and the state of the justice system in the United States.
A big shout out to RBT & Alwayswrite, who gathered much of the audio used in the mash-ups. This is truly a TROUBL team effort.

ELEVATOR HATER
Check this time-lapse video of someone stuck in an elevator for literally 40 hours straight. No cell phone, no watch, … no one watching on the security cameras apparently – it’s enough to drive a dude insane. Among other things, it made me wonder where he… relieved himself. Probably down into the elevator shaft (after using his super-human strength to pry open the doors) because otherwise, it would be like being stuck in some kind of gross odor torture chamber. Not too awesome. I would hate elevators too after this.
And we know this is a pretty random thing to post, but there is an up-side to having a blog about nothing in particular. Plus we can post anything we want as long as we accompany it with an ill song that somehow relates, right? … Indeed.
OUTKAST F. DEBRA KILLINGS & SLEEPY BROWN: ELEVATORS
- Jesse
[EDIT:]
The video accompanied this article in The New Yorker, most of it is about elevator history, but it also speaks on what happened to the guy. It mentions he started having “auditory hallucinations” from the alarm bell which he was trying to keep on for as long as possible in hopes someone would hear it. As Jesse said he was in there without a cell or a watch, he had only 3 cigarettes and his wallet. After security finally noticed and got him out he never returned to work. He sued the elevator maintenance company for 6 figures, spent all the money and is still unemployed (according to the article). The situation is fucked to say the least. I’m not claustrophobic, but I’m sure I’d go batshit in the same situation.

Ever Been Called Canadian?
“Last August, a blogger in Cincinnati going by the name CincyBlurg reported that a black friend from the southeastern U.S. had recently discovered that she was being called a Canadian. “She told me a story of when she was working in a shop in the South and she overheard some of her customers complaining that they were always waited on by a Canadian at that place. She didn’t understand what they were talking about and assumed they must be talking about someone else,” the blogger wrote.
After this happened several times with different patrons, she mentioned it to one of her co-workers. He told her that ‘Canadian’ was the new derogatory term that racist Southerners were using…”
Nanobot Brains And Voiceless Phonecalls
Don’t say we never dropped science on you…
“A tiny chemical “brain” which could one day act as a remote control for swarms of nano-machines has been invented.”

And above we have a neckband that intercepts nerve signals, allowing someone to translate thoughts into words without emitting a sound. Hence, this would allow someone to use a phone without actually speaking and, in theory, even take notes without writing. I thought it would be at least 50 years before I’d be able to take notes with my mind… this shit is crazy.
“A neckband that translates thought into speech by picking up nerve signals has been used to demonstrate a “voiceless” phone call for the first time.
With careful training a person can send nerve signals to their vocal cords without making a sound. These signals are picked up by the neckband and relayed wirelessly to a computer that converts them into words spoken by a computerised voice.”

Disclaimer: The video below depicts extremely cruel treatment of a defenseless animal. A few skeptics and conspiracy theorists believe that this video is a hoax and that no animals were harmed during filming. Whatever the truth may be, David Motari is either a puppy killer or someone with, at the very least, extremely questionable morals, possibly psychological problems, and enough time on his hands to concoct and orchestrate an elaborate hoax.

I would also like to you use this post as an opportunity to address the topic of U.S. soldiers in Iraq and, (U.S.) soldiers in general.
Not all U.S. soldiers are bad people so don’t let this video affect your view of them as a whole. People from all walks of life join the U.S. military and their reasons for doing so vary greatly. Some might be driven to enlist purely by a strong sense of patriotism, and on the opposite end of the spectrum, some who are targeted by recruiters in communities with job shortages might join out of necessity alone. Therefore, not all U.S. soldiers support the politics or beliefs behind the war in Iraq (or any war for that matter) and not all of them sympathize with their leaders.
Whether it’s a case of a soldier that agrees, 100 percent, with everything their president stands for, or someone that completely disagrees with the war they are a part of, once they’ve enlisted (or have been conscripted) they are basically “owned” by the government. All U.S. soldiers then have to follow orders, put their lives in the hands of leaders whose true motives will forever remain uncertain, and subject themselves to harsh conditions and the risk of being killed by an enemy of their country at any time. Hence, I would like to respectfully offer my condolences to all the brave soldiers serving in Iraq, all war veterans, and the thousands of soldiers’ families who have been forced to cope with the untimely deaths of their loved ones.
Radiohead’s New Album Sets Precedent
Thom Yorke and company are finally putting out a new album, and their sales pitch is as innovative as their music has been. Apparently, you can pay whatever you want for it. Okay, maybe it’s been done before(?)… but this time it’s Radiohead!
“Innovative rock band Radiohead has stunned the music world by announcing that its forthcoming album will make its debut as a digital download available for whatever individual consumers want to pay for it.”

The Jena Who?
Over the last few days, I’ve found that many – if not most – of my peers have not heard about the Jena Six. Usually, I wouldn’t make a post concerning something that already has widespread media coverage unless I was bringing new information to the table. However, considering the importance of this story, I’m making an exception.
“Last fall [in Jena, Louisiana], when two Black high school students sat under the “white” tree on their campus, white students responded by hanging nooses from the tree. When Black students protested the light punishment for the students who hung the nooses, District Attorney Reed Walters came to the school and told the students he could “take [their] lives away with a stroke of [his] pen.” Racial tension continued to mount in Jena, and the District Attorney did nothing in response to several egregious cases of violence and threats against black students. But when a white student–who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses–taunted a black student, allegedly called several black students “nigger”, and was beaten up by black students, six black students were charged with second-degree attempted murder. Last month, the first young man to be tried, Mychal Bell, was convicted. He faces up to 22 years in prison for a school fight.” – Taken from: www.freethejena6.org
At least to me, it’s quite clear that this district attorney has let his own racial double standards affect his judgement. We all know these double standards exist in society, but when the results are this serious, something has to be done. I’m not saying the Jena Six deserved no punishment at all, but 22 years in jail is completely unjustifiable. Unfortunately, this may just be the tip of the iceberg; a glimpse into a much more widespread problem than most people would like to admit.
If this story upsets you but you feel like there’s nothing you can do to help, at least find out more about it and spread the word. Here’s a link to a petition against this injustice: www.colorofchange.org/jena/
