“British artist Stephen Wiltshire is currently attempting to draw the Manhattan skyline from memory. since Monday October 26th. Wiltshire began filling in an 18 foot canvas at the Pratt institute, Brooklyn. The drawing is expected to be complete by Friday. You can follow his progress through the live webcam here.
Wiltshire, diagnosed with autism at the age of three, displays an unusually powerful photographic memory that he has applied to rendering city scapes. He can look at the subject of his drawing once and reproduce it accurately with photographic detail, down to the exact number of columns or windows on a building. He memorizes their shapes, locations and the architecture.”

Thursday Mixes:
Kode9’s Bubble ‘N’ Squeak mix over at XLR8R. “Originally aired as part of the special 25th-Anniversary broadcast of Radio Lancashire’s On the Wire,” Kode spins only classic and forgotten UKG and 2-step, time travelling the hardcore continuum and freaking it like grime & dubstep never happened.
‘Happy Birthday, Flying Lotus’ at Brainfeeder. Just some bros cooling out in Echo Park in the name of LA’s favorite son. In the mix: “Flying Lotus himself, Exile, Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA), Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner (Erykah Badu, SA-RA), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Suite for Ma Dukes), Computer Jay (Master Blazter) and many others.”
Alex Nut’s mix for Crazy Legs Club. Really my favorite selector in the world right now.
Hudson Mohawke’s new mix at LuckyMe. Where else can you hear Wiley and Anita Baker in the same mix? A friend of mine called HudMo “Glasgow’s Egyptian Lover”. This illustration in Dazed & Confused nails it.
Also, 2 fresh tunes out of Cam Reed’s Babe Rainbow project. Cam is a man of many hats and purveyor of lefty jump shots in the paint.
Be sure to check out Wire and The Atlantic contributor Hua Hsu’s Thurday Mixes post. I stole the idea from him. Linked up is a rap mix featuring only tracks that contain “can’t stop” in the title.
Hua Hsu is probably best known for his article The End of White America, but I know him as the guy that first got me reading Wire with his moving MF DOOM profile.
